There are several ways to fit a bed into a van. A fixed bed is comfortable but permanent: once installed, the van loses its versatility for good. A fold-down bed solves the problem differently: you sleep when you want to, and work when you need to.

Materials for van bed frames: why 9-ply marine birch plywood

Not all wood holds up equally well inside a van. Temperature fluctuations, humidity, heavy use and the constant weight of two adults are demands that low-quality wood simply cannot withstand. We use 9-ply marine birch plywood, laminated on both sides — the same material used in boats. Lightweight, rigid and moisture-resistant. The perfect base for a good night’s sleep, night after night, for years to come.

What is the difference between buying just the bed frame and buying the full pack?

If you already have a mattress or want to choose one separately, you can purchase just the bed frame. The full pack includes both the frame and the custom mattress.

Are the bed frames compatible with any mattress?

The frames are optimised for use with our model-specific mattresses. Contact us if you wish to use your own mattress to check compatibility.

Are the camper van bed frames made from aluminium or wood?

Our frames are built with strong yet lightweight materials. Check the individual product pages for specific materials used in each model.

I already have an inflatable mattress, can I use it?

Naturally!

What material is it made of?

Our camper beds are made with body board, so that they have maximum strength, are anti-slip on the upper side, and allow assembly and disassembly for many years.

Do I need more storage space. Can I order my bed higher?

If you carry bikes, surfboards or other bulky toys, the Camporan bed base is ideal, as it allows you to make the most of the available space. In addition, we can adapt our models to your space requirements.

What is the difference between the Camporan bed base and a conventional slatted bed base?

A conventional slatted bed base features flexible slats that provide ventilation and some cushioning. The Camporan bed base uses a 9-layer marine birch plywood panel, which is stiffer and more weight-resistant, designed to support two adults night after night under conditions of movement (vibrations, temperature changes, humidity). The mattress compensates for the rigidity of the base, particularly in the version with a memory foam layer. If you’re looking for extra ventilation beneath the mattress, air the base every morning and, if possible, place the mattress on an anti-condensation mesh.

Does the bed base damage the bodywork or the interior of the van?

No. Camporan structures do not require any drilling, screwing or modification of the van. They are supported and secured without making any aggressive contact with the bodywork or interior. This means you can remove them without leaving a trace, and if you switch to a compatible van model in the future, you can take the structure with you.
